Plan for Ayurveda wellness centres

  • BHOPAL: Cities like Bhopal, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Indore and Rewa would be part of 2,500 locations in the country to have Health and Wellness Centers (HWCs). These centres will pave the way for introduction of the Ayushman Bharat scheme (national health insurance) to be applicable for ayurveda, according to the Ayush Medical Association.
  • The move comes in the backdrop of the much-talked about bridge course that allows Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) doctors to practise allopathy to a certain extent at the Health and Wellness Centers (HWCs).

According to Ayush Medical Association spokesperson, Dr Rakesh Pandey, within a month, 2,500 HWCs will be opened. In the next five years, 12,500 HWCs will be opened across India. It was announced during a meeting in New Delhi.

The role of Ayurveda colleges in the Ayushman Bharat scheme was discussed in the presence of principals, heads of departments and directors of nearly 2,500 Ayurveda colleges from across the country.

Each Ayurveda college will have the responsibility to open 15-20 wellness centres. A health and wellness center costs about Rs 15 lakh. An Ayush College will be given the responsibility of managing about 20 HWCs. The Ministry of Ayush has sent the proposal of Rs 760 crore for the project.
